Language Challenge Exams

The purpose of these exams is to allow students who have already acquired the appropriate learning elsewhere to get credit for a Grade 11 or 12 course.

  1. The deadline for applications to the 2025/2026 Language Challenge Exams is October 21st, 2025
  2. Exams will take place on January 31st and February 1st .  Your exam will take around three hours – you will be informed whether your exam is scheduled for the morning or afternoon.
  3. In the Challenge Exam Application Package, Page 9 is to be filled out online before you print the package. You will see the highlighted areas and drop boxes where you should type.
  4. Confirmation emails will be sent out by December 15, 2025.  If you have not received an email confirmation letter after that date,  please contact us by email (pmanuel@deltaschools.ca) or call 604-940-5550.
  5. All universities in Canada accept Language Challenge exam marks. UBC accepts Challenge credits for pre-requisite requirements for courses and second-language requirements but does not accept Challenge marks as part of the GPA calculation for admission. It is highly recommended that you check with your intended university for their admissions requirements.

Challenge exams are available for the following languages:

  • American Sign Language 11 ( NEW THIS YEAR**)
  • Farsi 11 & 12
  • French 11 and 12
  • Japanese 11 and 12
  • Korean 11 and 12
  • Mandarin 11 and 12
  • Punjabi 11 and 12
  • Spanish 11 and 12

 

Please see the application package for more information about the exams.

  1. Download the package from the website and fill it out completely ( You need to submit pages 9-11 only)
  2. You need to complete pages 9 & 10 online before you print out the application
  3.  Attach a cheque for $50 (which will be refunded once you complete the Challenge exam) made out to: Delta School District
    • You must also print your full name, school and course you are challenging on the back of the cheque
  1. Attach a recent, original photo of you (can be passport type or school photo)
    1. It CANNOT be a photocopy of a picture
    2. It CANNOT include anybody else in the picture (ie; friends, family, pets)
  2. Submit the COMPLETED Application Package to your counsellor in Student Services
