Burnaby Central Secondary School serves the Central Valley region of Burnaby as one of three semestered secondary schools in Burnaby.  The building is brand new bringing with it a 50 year school history. Presently over 1300 students of various ethnicities are enrolled.  We are proud of our diversity.

Our new state of the art facility provides an outstanding learning environment for our vast range of programs in english, math, social studies, science, languages, music, drama, art, dance, home economics, automotive technology, electronics, woodworking, business, information technology, and physical education.  The district’s Ace-it Professional Cooks Training program runs out of a commercial grade kitchen at Burnaby Central, and a brand new 8 lane running track and artificial turf field has been added to the site.

The semester organization of our school meets students’ core academic needs while allowing them to take a wide variety of elective programs.  International students are attracted to our school programs with over 100 students currently registered.

Our AVPA (Athletic and Visual & Performing Arts) Program attracts students from around the lower mainland.  This program allows elite level athletes and performing arts students’ opportunities to participate in rigorous academic and practice schedules.  As part of our tradition of sports excellence, the school is partnered with the Vancouver Whitecaps for their Under 20 Prospects Residency Program. Students in the AVPA program, the BWC program, and the Whitecaps program benefit from the semester organization of the school for their rehearsal or practice times can be consistently blocked into their academic day.

A particular strength of Burnaby Central is the high level of involvement of its students, staff and parents in areas outside of the classroom.  Some of the extracurricular activities being offered include: track & field, soccer, basketball, rugby, volleyball, field hockey, badminton, net ball, wrestling, cricket, student government, WISH, environmental sustainability, a wide variety of various clubs, music performances, drama productions, dance teams, and school service opportunities.

Burnaby Central has an active Parent Advisory Council (PAC) which is supportive of our school goals and programs.  Through PAC meetings, the school newsletter, parent evenings, the school website, and the Burnaby Central email list-serve our school keeps parents informed and involved in all aspects of school life.
