The Burnaby Central Career Education department provides the opportunity for students in grades 11 & 12 to gain knowledge and skills through hands-on work experience placements. Students enrolled in Work Experience 12A (W/EX 12A) will have the opportunity to:
- develop job-seeking skills (application process, interview skills, resume writing, etc.)
- experience the world of work in a variety of careers while still in high school
- develop and refine employability skills
- link course curriculum learned in high school to the world of work
- develop self-confidence and self-esteem
- complete the 30 hours of work experience graduation requirement
- have one spare block in grade 12
- counts towards the courses required for the $1250 District Authority Award
The Burnaby Central Career Education department also facilitates applications for the Burnaby School District Industry Training Programs (Youth Train in Trades, Industry Connect, Industry Certification). These programs can lead to industry certification, apprenticeship, and/or the development of a portfolio. These can support applications to post-secondary programs and/or employment. All graduates in Burnaby require 30 hours of work or volunteer experience to graduate. Students who are not enrolled in W/EX 12A or do not have a part -time job or are looking for volunteer hours can find opportunities below:
