National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

Thursday, September 30th marks the first National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.  Since schools will not be in session on this day, Burnaby Central- like many other schools around our country- will be observing Orange Shirt day on Wednesday September 29th, 2021.

The Bell Schedule will be altered on Wednesday September 29th, 2021- which will allow Central’s community to take part in some acts of Truth and Reconciliation.  Please see the revised Bell Schedule here.

In Period 1 classes, Burnaby Central students and staff will go through the resources our school has gathered about educating everyone on the importance of Truth and Reconciliation: -where the Orange Shirt Day movement originated and its significance; -what the importance of Truth Telling; -what Reconciliation means, and some ways in which they can engage within their community to carry out some acts of Reconciliation.

Displays about significant Indigenous Changemakers, the Coast Salish welcome figure at our school’s entrance, and displays on classroom doors will be up for students to see.
