Ramadan

Ramadan (a period of fasting) begins on Saturday March 1st. Ramadan is the first day of the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar (Lunar), which is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon.  Many practicing Muslims will be observing the holy month of Ramadan for 29-30 days. They will focus on good works, spirituality and community. Muslims are required to abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk. Fasting ends at sunset with dates and a meal. Fasting during Ramadan means abstinence from all food or drink, including water and chewing gum, from dawn to sunset.  Ramadan is a time of self-examination and religious devotion.
