URGENT: AIR QUALITY ADVISORY FOR SEPTEMBER 14, 2020

The District has been closely monitoring the situation and has sought advice from the Fraser Health Authority over the weekend regarding the air quality advisory.

If the smoke isn’t clearing, schools are planning to take steps advised by our local Medical Health Officer, such as:

–   limiting time outside,

keeping exterior windows and doors closed,

being ready to support students with asthma or other health conditions impacted by the air quality, and

  advising against strenuous outdoor activities.

We continue to be advised that the layers of control for the prevention of COVID-19 – such as daily health checks, hand hygiene, learning groups, maximizing physical distance, and minimizing physical contact – are protective and remain strong.

The Burnaby School District will continue to follow all health and safety guidelines as provided by health authorities related to both COVID-19 and air quality warnings.

The decision to send your child to school or not is, as always, up to the family. If you opted for in-class instruction for your child and they will not be attending, then please – as you normally would – notify the school that your child will be absent.
