A GRAD Update!

Our two grad events are coming up fast.  We’ve provided some information on the two events for you.
Tuesday, June 23 @ 7:00 – Virtual School Leaving Ceremony
This event is our pre-recorded School Leaving Ceremony, which replaces our traditional event at Bill Copeland Arena.  This ceremony features a slides show of grad photos with student accomplishments and future plans, our Valedictorian, Mitra Suseendran’s speech, Ms. Carr’s Principal Address, Scholarship and Award winners announcements and more.  We will be forwarding a link to this event later next week.

Wednesday, June 24 from 10:00 – 5:00 – A socially distanced Crossing the Stage Event at Burnaby Central.
This is a live, in-person event where grads can dress up in their caps, gowns, stoles and honour cords and cross an outdoor stage in the presence of family and a small group of other grads.

Our plan:  To honour our graduates through a crossing the stage event.  Graduates and families are invited to come to Burnaby Central on Wednesday June 24 to cross an outdoor stage.

Grads will be allowed to invite up to two guardians to participate with them, other family members are welcome to watch from the school field.  Students and guardians will wait in designated waiting areas for their turn to cross our stage.  We will use our outdoor common space between the school and the sports field, as seen in the site plan.  Parents and students will progress from waiting area 3 to 2 and then to 1.  When it is a graduate’s turn, the student will walk up a set of concrete steps while their parent(s) walk in front of the steps and stage.  Students will receive their diplomas, which will be left on a row of tables, pose for a photo and then walk down a second set of concrete steps where they will rejoin their families and proceed to a photo booth station.  An Artona photographer will be at a photo booth station to take a photo of the graduate with (or without) family members.  Students and family will then exit at the south end of the sports field.  Artona will be providing all grads with this photo, free of charge.

Burnaby Central Staff will be present on the track to encourage and support our grads.

Important:

Grads will have the opportunity to sign up for a half hour time slot during the day with a small group of 19 other grads (20 grads in total per half hour time slot).  The online sign up form will come out Monday afternoon, so please coordinate and think about what time you would like to come to Central and who you would like to cross the stage with.
